School Visiting— Lishan Junior High School

Class:English Gifted Ressource Class
Teacher:許素愛 teacher

Opening:

Before we arrived the class, they had started the lesson; so actually we did not catch the real beginning of the class.
After we were all set, teacher started the lesson again. She reminded them the lesson they had learned in last class by asking them some questions; through asking questions teacher could make sure whether students caught the idea or not.

Body:

1.repeating:

After teaching a paragraph or a section, teacher would play the CD and make students repeat after the CD. Through repeating after the CD, I think it can help to train the listening and speaking ability of students.
I think in order to improve the listening ability, to listen at times as possible as we can is the best way to succeed. And the teacher make students to repeating after the CD could also help them to improve their pronunciation and speaking. While listening to their speaking, I was so surprised that their pronunciation was better than many college students.

2.establishing:

When teacher wanted to move on a new part of the lesson, teacher would ask students to close the book and help them estabilsh the basis idea through asking questions at first. Then she would played the CD to enforce their idea again only with CD. Teacher would not allow them open the book to read until the third time.
In order to help them establish basis or learn, teacher would use flash card and sometimes mother tongue in her teaching, that would make students understand more.

3.role playing:

While finishing a paragraph or a section, teacher would ask students to act the character and practice the dialogue, but it dose not to act it out just through their voice. This was called voice role play by me.
In this way, they could get the reinforcement of the context many time, and also practice their speaking at the same time. Through their happy tone, I think it really works.

Closure:

While the school bell rang, teacher asked them to write their assignment in their record book. Then I found out they has a lot of different textbooks, outside readings, and homeworks. To them, they not only learned during the class, but also outside of it, on wonder they could enter the English Gifted Ressource Class. To me, after the visiting, I know my learning should never be stopped or lazy or I would be eliminate soon.

Midterm Report

Feedback to Group Five

I had a lot of fun in their presentation; in fact I liked their class procedure.
At the beginning, they used some simple questions and images to help us establish basic idea or background of the reading context. But while explaining the meaning of it, it’s too quickly to follow up; and when it comes to some new words, though teacher explained it by simple sentence and supplied some similar words for us, the teacher forgot to state it clearly. For example, we couldn’t figure out the word which told by teacher was “passion” or “patience”.
About the game, I really like it and it’s really fun. As teacher Alice has said, through their game, I learned a new way to control the time, and I believe students would also love it. Moreover, in the process of the game, controlling situation and order is also an important thing; we can’t make the class out of control.
Using a competition to make students read actively is a successful method, especially a group-to-group competition, the peer support, encouragement, and honor actually works a lot in helping students have motivations to read.

Feedback to Group Four

In the presentation of group four, they established the atmosphere to carry us into the speaking practice. They used the visual aids to assist in teaching speaking. Through the website they introduced us; we could easily get the idea of the topic they wanted to express. At the same time, we could learn from the demonstration of the visual website; we could imitate or learn their tone, words and sentences, and even some grammar.
According to this point, we could know that transferring the
abstract idea into concreteness is useful and helpful to teaching.    In addition, the two teachers are great, too. They didn’t use too many assistants in their teaching, in this way they could avoid the equipment problems affecting the teaching process and plan. From this part, I know that a well-prepared lesson doesn’t necessarily involve a lot of assistants.
And in their or our presentation, we could see that activity do help learning. Students could learn and get reinforcement from activities. Then after activities, it’s necessary to give some assignments to make sure students could review and did learn the subject from the class.
